How can I determine the IP address of a WaveShaper ‘A’ series or WaveAnalyzer?
Determining the IP address of the WaveShaper or WaveAnalyzer can be done by using the terminal program in Windows using mDNS.
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the back of the instrument either from the wall socket or directly from the Ethernet port of the computer.
- Power up the instrument
- Startup the terminal program in windows: cmd.exe. This can be done by clicking on the “Start” button and then enter “CMD” as shown here:
- After the command window (..\cmd.exe) has opened, type the following command:
ping <serial number>.local
with the serial number of the instrument instead of <serial number>
- In the case of the screenshot below the serial number was WS200427 and the command was therefore
ping ws200427.local. The resultant reply from the ping data will reveal the IP address. In this case it’s 10.118.6.63.
When running a program to control the WaveShaper or WaveAnalyzer, it is recommended to use the actual IP address rather than using the mDNS lookup command as otherwise the processing speed may slow down.
